The closed beta features two modes: online multiplayer and Towers of Time, the game’s single-player mode. Five characters are also available: Baraka, Jade, Kabal, Scarlet, and Scorpion.
Leading up to the beta period, NetherRealm studios has released a handful of trailers for Mortal Kombat 11. Ranging from a gore-laden, time-travel focused story trailer to a pre-beta reveal highlighting the closed beta’s playable characters, there has been no shortage of footage for the sequel to 2015’s well-received Mortal Kombat X.
In addition to those trailers, NetherRealm has released a number of character reveal trailers as well as a number of deep-dive livestreams which have looked at specific character movesets and changes.
So far, NetherRealm has confirmed 24 fighters for the game’s growing roster, including favorites such as Johnny Cage, Liu Kang, Kabal, Noob Saibot, and Shang Tsung (as DLC).
Interestingly, Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa, who played Tsung in 1992’s Mortal Kombat film as well as the second season of Mortal Kombat: Legacy, will be reprising his role as the famous sorcerer in MK 11.
