The Elderseal attribute is one of those. The Elderseal shows up in specific weapons such as the dragonbone tree, and is ranked in power from low to high. But it doesn’t seem to have much effect on most creatures. While any given monster has weaknesses against elements like thunder or ailments like paralysis, the Elderseal ability is a whole different idea altogether.
Most of the various combat systems in Monster Hunter World get explained at one point or another – or are pretty self explanatory once you figure out how to farm monsters for components. Elderseal, on the other hand, gets a mention in a few world info entries, but it is never really given an in-depth tutorial during the course of the game.
We’ve got you covered, though, with this Elderseal guide, showing you what Elderseal does and when it is most useful during a monster hunt!
What Is Elderseal In MH World?
Despite its electric unicorn appearance, Kirin is actually one of the first elder dragons you will come across. After a successful hunt, you may have noticed a curious statement appear in the monster’s world info about a different way of fighting the beast.
This entry lets you know that Elderseal can be useful in the battle, but doesn’t exactly spell out the specifics of how it effects Kirin or any other elder dragon in Monster Hunter World.
For an edge against elder dragons, you want some elderseal weaponry
So what exactly do Monster Hunter World Elderseal weapons do? Elderseal weapons provide a specific stagger effect on each of the elder dragons found throughout the game, with increased effects as you move from low- to medium- to high-level elderseal.
These stagger effects temporarily negate an elder dragon’s special combat ability, such as Kirin’s lightning charge effect, the windy aura generated by Kushala Daora, or the gas cloud from Vaal Hazak. Teostra’s constant fire aura, of course, is also negated so you can get in close without taking damage every few seconds.
Elderseal weapons are especially potent against Nergigante, as they destroy that elder dragon’s spines. This not only prevents him from firing those spines at you, it also reveals weak points where increased damage can be dealt.
Note that these effects are still temporary however, and won’t prevent the elder dragon from re-activating those abilities after the stagger period cool down ends.
So far, Monster Hunter World Elderseal weapons are confirmed to have an additional effects on the following monsters:
Kushala Daora Kirin Nergigante Teostra Vaal Hazak Xeno’jiiva
With the right weapon load out and abilities, this guy is less deadly
While the Elderseal weapon attribute can give you a big edge against those specific creatures, they aren’t the only method of achieving the same effect. if you don’t have an elderseal weapon already crafted and ready to go, dragon pods also provide the same effect, although they don’t do much direct damage.
