As it turns out, our collectively nonplussed reactions were kind of, sort of unnecessary. Today, Activision clarified that players won’t actually need that much space to install and play the game. At first, anyway.
In a recent blog post, David Hodgson, editorial manager at Activision, said that 175GB is what the developer recommends players have available to experience everything Modern Warfare has to offer, now and in the future.
In other words, 175GB includes future DLCs as well. Hodgson said:
Though Hodgson admits the install size of Modern Warfare’s base game will be smaller than 175GB, he does not provide any information on what that size might be. For reference, last year’s Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 required an 80GB install size. Using that as a baseline, we can deduce that Modern Warfare’s size will be in the same ballpark.
We’ve reached out to Activision for comment, but we have yet to hear back. We will update this article once we learn more.
